 "My Chantal tea kettle" 2010-01-06
By Ragna Shollenberger (Oregon)
I have owned my Chantal tea kettle (white enamel) for about 15 - 20 years and it is still working like a champ, with one exception. Several years ago the white enamel on the inside started to break loose and into small pieces. We are not sure if we should use it anymore and would like to receive any input if anyone have experienced the same problem.

I will definately buy another Chantal and the fact that the handle gets hot does not bother me. I have good potholders which takes seconds to retrieve.

This is my second white Chantal kettle. This time I won't clean my new one with anything abrasive- the last one I got was in 1989...

It still looked good & worked super.( but with a few scratches)...and the only reason I got a new one is I left the kettle on the stove with the spout lid

up so there was no whistle. As a result- the entire inside got charred- so I found a good price & ordered the same one from Amazon. It came fairly quickly.

This one is the same quality & style. It is like jewelry for my stove. It looks absolutely beautiful and the whistle is in 3 notes that harmonize.

It is very efficient...beats electric kettles as far as I am concerned.

We've just discarded our 3rd white classic Chantal. We keep buying them. But each we've bought has lasted about 3 years and then the cuff and fittings around the spout get loose, causing leakage when you pour the boiling water. Most recently the leakage flooded the stove burner which shorted out the burner's electronic starter ($200 to get fixed). I guess we're not very smart because we keep buying these Chantals. But they're so gorgeous and for the 2 or 3 years before the fittings get loose, they work beautifully (I don't mind the intrusive whistle and I use a pot holder on the hot handle). But at these prices, and with our last stove repair incident, we've run the course with Chantal and are shopping for a new brand.

 "Great Teakettle" 2007-03-12

This is the best teakettle as far as performance and looks it is far superior then most others. Be careful of the enamel finish; it can chip if dropped and always use the handle holder. I just love this product!

Handle really does get unbelievably hot! And who wants to fuss with that silly potholder all the time (now included and none too attractive). Plus, the whistle sounds like an air raid, or something equally ominous. So not worth a hundred clams. This baby's going back.
